Study Shows Couples’ Genes Could Affect Marital Bliss
A new study began with the question ‘What makes one spouse so attuned to the emotional climate in a marriage, and another so oblivious?’ Scientists from Northwestern University in Chicago and University of California set out to find out by investigating more than 100 spouses and their DNA.
They observed their interactions with their partners and looked at variation in a gene called 5-HTTLPR. A gene is basically an instruction and this particular one is involved in the regulation of a hormone called serotonin. Serotonin has a number of jobs in the body and plays an important part in your mental health.
