How Eye Contact Works
When you have a conversation with someone how much eye contact is normal? The level of eye contact we make depends upon the situation we find ourselves in. If we are in a group it’s normal for eye contact to be around 3 to 5 seconds whereas if we are having a one to one conversation we tend to hold eye contact longer to around 7 to 10 seconds.
What’s also important is the amount of time we spend actually looking at someone. It can be very frustrating can’t it when you are talking to someone and they appear to be not listening because they are looking around or down at their phone and not looking at you!
This article goes on to discuss eye contact in more detail and how ‘eye contact can signal love, hate, intelligence, creepiness, persuasion, sarcasm—and sometimes lies’.
