Defusing Shame by Sharing It
Kelly Nguyen writes about a powerful and dangerous issue for us all, shame. Shame is a very toxic emotion and can cause immense damage to our mental health if we let it. Kelly gives a long list of things that people feel ashamed of, many of them thoughts. She suggests that pushing away shameful thoughts does not work. What may be more effective is sharing it with someone safe.
It could be that that safe person you share your shame with is your best friend, your partner, a family member or your therapist. The advantage of the therapeutic relationship is that there is no chance that sharing can come and bite you later like it could with less safe relationships.
Nguyen also gives some suggestions for using imagery for dealing with shame. Read the post by clicking on the link below.
