I am Marianne Oakes. I am a Qualified Therapeutic Counsellor registered to the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I have worked as a volunteer counsellor for MIND in Ashton Under lyne and more recently Beacon Counselling in Stockport. I also see clients privately at the Affinity Centre, Wilmslow and at my home in Chapel en le Frith.
I practice as a person centred counsellor, which means, I believe that we are all the experts in our own life, and I am just the facilitator helping you to find your own answers. My focus in the sessions is to create a safe therapeutic environment where you will be able to talk freely about what may be troubling you and express your feelings without judgment with a view to you gaining autonomy over your life and life choices.
I am able to work with adults and young people with all kinds of issues ranging from;
The list could go on, whatever it is that may be troubling you, I am able to offer support.
I also work with clients who have sexuality and gender identity issues and everything related to these. For clients who suffer these identity issues, having a counsellor who truly understands and can empathise can be important and my life experience has given me a unique insight into these issues in particular.
I was drawn to therapeutic counselling through my own experience of speaking to a counsellor. The change in me was profound and felt I wanted to share this experience with others. Autonomy over ones own life and future is something that we can unconsciously give away, we can be railroaded in a direction we never truly wanted to go, but were afraid to say so. Counselling people and seeing them take back control over their own destiny, throwing away the invisible shackles that stops them moving forward with their life as they choose, this is why I am a counsellor, to allow people to see themselves in their truest form.
If you feel I could be of help, our first session will be free. Come and meet me, lets talk and see if I am the right counsellor for you, there is no obligation to return.
I am a registered member of the BACP and therefore I have to abide by their code of ethics. This also means I have to participate in regular CPD (continued personal development) and attended regular independent supervision one to one, and group supervision.
I also have certificates in, safe guarding, self harm and self injury, and counselling victims of domestic abuse.
All session are 50mins long.
Initial assessment free of charge (No obligation to return).
All further session are £45 per hour thereafter.
Payments by cash, cheque or BACS on the day.
It will depend on your issues how many sessions will be required, I would usually contract for 6 sessions, though at any time you are welcome to end, or, contract for more sessions if you wish.
