Hi, I’m Al. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a member and former board member of the UK Association for Solution Focused Practice.

Before I was a therapist, I spent over a decade as a professional musician and songwriter. Yet I find therapy a much more exciting creative space. Together we create the change you want in your life.

My Philosophy

If you’re like most people who visit this page, you’d like to feel better than you do right now.

Yet you may feel a bit unsure about therapy. That’s perfectly natural.

You’d like the benefits of therapy, but maybe you don’t want to dig up the past and all the upset it involves. I get that. So here’s the good news. You don’t have to unless you really want to.

There is another way to heal, and that’s what I specialise in.

So whether you want to talk about your history, or whether you don’t, I am here to help.

No matter what the issue, therapy can be a hopeful, uplifting experience.

I have the best job in the world, helping people during difficult times to come out the other side. I’d like to meet you and see how I can help.

My Approach

I use a number of different approaches in my work. I think it is important for a therapist to be flexible enough to tailor sessions to your needs. You are an individual after all. Therapy is not one size fits all.

My fundamental approach is to build your strengths, not heap more problems onto you.

You already have amazing personal qualities. You already have strategies that have worked for you in the past. You’ve gotten this far despite the struggles you face. So I start from the standpoint that you’re already pretty incredible.

We will be using many of those strengths and strategies as part of your unique recipe for the change you want now.

The aim is for you to have the support and insight you need to bring you the future you long for.

What would life look like if your past no longer got in the way of your future?

We answer that question together and then work jointly to bring that future into reality.

My expectation is that you’ll find working with me supportive, enjoyable and exciting. It may sound strange but, even though it is a safe place for tears, there are often far more smiles and laughter in our sessions.

I have a strong interest in the role of physiology in therapy too.

I understand that trauma is stored in the body. During our sessions, I use this awareness of how our nervous system works. Often, changing the state will change the story we tell ourselves. There are many ways to soothe the nervous system so that we no longer feel in an ongoing state of anxiety or depression.

In sessions I flexibly use aspects of Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Nonviolent Communication, and Transactional Analysis.

My Motivation

This is more than a job to me. It’s a passion. I’ve always been someone who wants to change the world and make it a better place. Therapy allows us to do that one person at a time.

But of course, when we change for the better, those benefits ripple outwards to those we love and interact with. Positive change is never one person at a time. It always impacts many.

There is nothing more satisfying for me than seeing you start living the life you truly want.

Further Information

I work day time hours.

Sessions last for 55 minutes and are £60 per session.
