This two-day workshop is presenting by Joanna Groves, Director of The Affinity Centre Cheadle.
Day one – WHY teenagers behave the way they do.
We will focus on fostering emotional literacy, which is the foundation for emotional wellbeing and can be enormously reassuring for both adult and adolescent.
Day two – HOW you can support adolescents in new ways.
We will focus on learning practical skills and exercises that support limit setting and behavioural change. These are easily transferable in to the workplace for immediate use.
Through a range of lectures, discussion and exercises you will work together in pairs and small groups throughout the day to help you clarify your ideas on these topics:
The teenage brain – what you and adolescents can learn from neuroscience by appreciating the uniqueness of the teenage brain.
Safety – explore the developmental stages necessary for adolescent growth and establish contracts that manage limit setting.
Managing stress and anxiety – learn the differences between emotional and physical stress and anxiety that support adolescents to bridge the confidence gap.
This is an experiential day where you will work together in small groups. You will learn practical exercises that can be used to help adolescents better manage their emotions, learn about self-care, and gain much needed focus to direct their behaviour in new ways.
Fostering emotional wellbeing – support young people to talk-it-out rather than act-it-out.
Problem solving – identifying and bridging the confidence gap.
Thinking ahead – empowering young people to think about goals and aspirations.
