How to Stop Worrying about Worrying

Do you worry about worrying?  In Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) this would be called “dirty anxiety”.  I love this phrase!  It means that you have a feeling about a feeling you are having and so get further trapped in the cycle.  So you may worry about worry or get angry that you are angry etc.  This negative cycle just whips you up further into a frenzy of feeling and is harmful.

In the post linked below Therese Borchard gives practical tips on how to avoid this cycle from a CBT perspective.  She explains the cycle and highlights errors in thinking that worriers and OCD sufferers often fall into.  The four Rs of self treatment, suggested by Jeffery Schwartz and Brain Lock are also discussed.
